Rematriation Magazine Indigenous Women’s Voices: Matika Wilbur
Matika Wilbur is a Documentary Photographer from the Swinomish and Tulalip Nations. While visiting Machu Picchu, Matika’s late grandmother, revealed to her in a dream, to bring the lens to her own people. Since, she has photographed members from over 300 sovereign nations, in her photographic endeavor, “Project 562”. Matika reawakens culture and captures the spirit of our Indigenous communities.
Rematriation Magazine has centered the voice of 10 Indigneous women in a short video series that shares stories of resilience, leadership, spirituality and healing. Led by an all women team, director, Katsitsionni Fox (Mohawk), producer, Michelle Schenandoah (Oneida) and cinematographer, Marie Cecile Dietlin, Rematriation Magazine’s film series furthers the current national dialogue about dismantling social injustice, but through a spiritually grounded lens.
