FIRST-EVER NATIVE & INDIGENOUS STREAMING TELEVISION NETWORK

Founded in 2006 – years before streaming became the future of television.

The World’s First Online Streaming Entertainment Company.

Red Nation Television Network holds the distinction of being the first streaming entertainment media company in the U.S. and worldwide—predating Netflix and all others. As the first Native-led streaming platform, it remains the longest-running Native and Indigenous content provider, delivering distinctive programming that celebrates Native and Indigenous culture, heritage, education, entertainment, and lifestyle.

Red Nation Television Network® - 20 Years of Native & Indigenous Media Innovation

Red Nation Television Network® (Red Nation TV) is a Native Indigenous women-owned entertainment media company and content provider at the forefront of the entertainment industry. Founded by Joanelle Romero, Jicarilla Apache Llanero Band, Mescalero Apache, Ohkay Owingeh, and Spanish-Sephardic lineal descendant – an award-winning director, producer, and actor; member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; and an Academy Award-shortlisted filmmaker—Red Nation TV grew from her decades-long commitment to Native and Indigenous storytelling.

Romero is also the Founder and President of Red Nation Celebration Institute® (RNCI), the longest-running Native women-led Indigenous media arts and cultural nonprofit enterprise in the history of the entertainment industry.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, with an office in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Red Nation TV serves both Indian Country and the entertainment industry, creating pathways for Native and Indigenous storytellers to develop, produce, distribute, and reach audiences worldwide.

20 Years of Red Nation Television Network — 2026

Founded in 2006, Red Nation Television Network pioneered Native-led streaming media—before streaming became the future of television.

Red Nation TV launched as a digital streaming platform dedicated to Native and Indigenous films, television, music, culture, and original programming. It predates the rise of major subscription streaming platforms and established an Indigenous-led digital home for stories that had historically been excluded or marginalized by mainstream entertainment.

From 2006 through 2015, Red Nation TV operated as a free streaming platform. In July 2015, it transitioned to a subscription-based video-on-demand model, expanding its library and introducing On-Demand Specials.

Today, Red Nation TV continues to distribute original and acquired films and television programming across multiple genres while developing new platforms and distribution partnerships to bring Native and Indigenous stories to audiences around the world.

The network has reached 10 million viewers across 37 countries, demonstrating the global demand for Native and Indigenous storytelling.

Building the Indigenous Creative Ecosystem

Red Nation TV is part of a larger ecosystem created by RNCI to support Native and Indigenous creators.

Red Nation TV’s roots extend even further. Red Nation Films was established in 1991, laying the foundation for Romero’s continued work in Native and Indigenous film, television, and media. Red Nation Television Network officially launched in 2006, transforming that vision into a dedicated digital distribution platform.

With its growing catalog, new partnerships, and continued development of the Red Nation TV App, the network is positioned for its next chapter of growth and expanded distribution.

20 Years of Red Nation Television Network 2026

Red Nation Television Network was founded in 2006—years before streaming became mainstream.

Before Netflix, Hulu, and today’s crowded streaming landscape became household names, Red Nation TV was already creating, distributing, and streaming Native and Indigenous stories to audiences around the world.

20 Years. One Vision. Native Stories. Bold Voices. Global Audiences.

Red Nation Television Network (Red Nation TV): Pioneering Native & Indigenous Streaming

Red Nation Television Network (Red Nation TV) is a pioneering Native and Indigenous streaming media platform dedicated to American Indian and Indigenous storytelling, filmmakers, artists, and culture.

2006

Founded in 2006, Red Nation TV entered the digital landscape before streaming became the dominant future of television. Three months before major television networks began introducing internet programming, RNCI was already delivering Native and Indigenous content directly to audiences online.

2006 -2015

From 2006 through 2015, Red Nation TV operated as a free streaming platform, providing audiences with unprecedented access to Native and Indigenous films, television, music, cultural programming, and original content. In July 2015, the network transitioned to a subscription-based model and introduced On-Demand Specials, expanding its ability to showcase and distribute Indigenous cinema.

2010

By 2010, Red Nation TV had reached 10 million viewers in 37 countries, demonstrating the global appetite for Native and Indigenous stories. At that time, the network's catalog included approximately 75 titles, with audiences spanning North America, Europe, South America, and beyond.

Designed as a 24/7, high-definition, multi-platform digital media network, Red Nation TV created a dedicated space for Native and Indigenous voices at a time when Indigenous representation across mainstream television and digital media remained profoundly limited.

A Decade of Native Broadcasting & Streaming Innovation

Red Nation TV continued to expand its original programming and live broadcasts.

In November 2013, the RNCI Red Nation Awards® had their first televised broadcast. Beginning in 2014, the Awards were also streamed live through Red Nation Television Network, bringing Native and Indigenous excellence to audiences beyond the traditional television broadcast.

In December 2014, Red Nation TV launched The Four, recognized by RNCI as the first all-Native women’s talk show, further establishing a platform where Native women could lead the conversation rather than simply be represented within it.

Red Nation TV’s legacy is rooted in a simple principle:

Before streaming became the future of television, Native and Indigenous stories were already streaming to the world.

Native Stories. Bold Voices. Global Audiences.
